This working group of LGBT+ and queer studies scholars is dedicated to building pedagogical and scholarly communities. Our collaborative endeavors impact our individual campuses but also have the potential for broader community outreach.

Collaborative Goals

We plan to meet consistently over the course of the next year: several zoom meetings and two in-person meetings. One in-person meeting will involve a facilitated retreat focused on teaching and publishing in LGBTQ+ Studies in the current sociopolitical climate and one in-person meeting will involve more concentrated time spent together over the course of three days and three nights at the Prospect Street Writers House, a residency that working group members attended in February 2026. Zoom meetings offer us a touchpoint throughout the year, ensuring that we never lose sight of our commitment to each other. In-person meetings enable us to spend solid, focused time together, allowing us to hone in on specific challenges, make viable plans, and work collaboratively on action items.

The 2025-2026 year was a revitalization year for us; our working group originated in 2017 and helped build community up through the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our current grant year has provided us the opportunity to reimagine the working group, extend invitations to folks who hadn't previously been involved, and to think critically about our priorities as a working group ought to be. As a result, our proposal for the 2026-2027 year builds on what we've begun in the hopes that we can gear ourselves up for a signature event in the 2027-2028 academic year.
