Global Middle Ages: Virtual Reading and Discussion Group Meeting
About This Event
Curating the Middle Ages is hosting its first reading and discussion meeting centered on the topic of the Global Middle Ages. Our aim is to explore arguments both in support and against the concept, especially as it applies to a special collections or museum setting. We'll discuss two readings: one in favor of and the other against the theoretical framework of the Global Middle Ages. The readings are: Catherine Holmes, Naomi Standen, “Introduction: Towards a Global Middle Ages,” Past & Present, Volume 238, Issue Supplement 13, November 2018, Pages 1–44, and Nora Berend, “Interconnection and Separation: Medieval Perspectives on the Modern Problem of the “Global Middle Ages,” Medieval Encounters, Volume 29, Issues 2-3, 2023, Pages 285-314. If you have trouble accessing the readings, please email the organizers.
