Professor Ríos specializes in 19th century Latin America, as well as Literary and Cultural Theory. She teaches graduate and undergraduate courses on Latin American literature and culture. Her most recent book is Nacionalismos banales: el culto a Bolívar. Literatura, cine, arte y política en América latina (Iberoamericana-IILI, 2013). With Ana del Sarto and Abril Trigo, she is the co-editor of The Latin American Cultural Studies Reader (Duke UP, 2004). Ríos current research focus on representations of Venezuela’s War of Independence and Race in literature and film.
