Transregional Solidarity Cultures in the Sinosphere and Beyond
About This Event
By gathering and inviting scholars, activists, students, artists and fellow comrades, our two-day conference at The University of Rochester seeks to provoke the following questions: what are the currently existing forms of cultures - broadly defined through associations, collectives, lifestyles, social and intellectual movements, literatures, films, drama, music and dance, internet and popular cultures and more - that seek to foster transregional solidarity across the Sinosphere and beyond? What are their social, political, and cultural valences and how do they affect popular consciousness? What are their intellectual limits? What are the barriers towards translating their theoretical aspects into practical projects? Are there different roles that higher education, civil society, and cultural producers can play in sustaining and propagating such cultures?
