Leïla Ka Residency: Artist Talk
About This Event
University of Rochester will present Paris-based Choreographer Leila Ka, with her company of 5 dancers (including Leila) for 2 public performances in the new Sloan Performing Arts Center (SPAC) on the River campus, in addition to an artistic talk and two workshops. After starting out in urban dance, Leila Ka was recruited by Maguy Marin to revive the mythical piece May B. She then created her own show, starting with a solo she made in her home town Saint Nazaire, Pode ser. It won five international awards since its creation in 2018. Ka has just won the Danse Élargie competition, and was rewarded for her latest creation, Bouffees, in which five women struggle with grief, that is both immense and liberating. Leila Ka has not traveled or toured in the United States to date, and this will mark her U.S. debut.
