Dialogue: Bridging the Civilian Military Divide

About This Event

This event is part of a year-long working group and Dialogue series: Military Veterans’ Stories of Belonging, Transition, and Higher Education: Bridging the Civilian-Military Divide. The Dialogue series is a collaboration between Corridor partners at the D’Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) and the Forensic & Security Sciences Institute at Syracuse University, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), and Le Moyne College. The November dialogue will focus on oral histories as an important form of storytelling and tool to help bridge the civilian military divide. The Military Voices Initiative (MVI) provides a platform for veterans, service members, and military families to share their stories. MVI is a part of StoryCorps, an independent nonprofit formed in 2003 that has recorded the stories of hundreds of thousands of people across the United States. Members of the panel will discuss their experiences with MVI, oral histories as an important form of storytelling, and the role of first-person narratives in helping civilians better understand the diverse experiences of the military affiliated community.
