MP1: South Asian Media and Performance Cultures

About

This new working group bring together scholars of South Asian music, cinema, and new media. As scholars working on this important area of global culture and the radical changes taking place therein, we will use Corridor support to bridge the geographical distance between us and develop our ideas through productive scholarly conversations. In our first year, we aim to exchange writing and provide each other feedback in closed workshopping sessions. Some of these sessions will include visits by colleagues whose research and teaching interests overlap with ours. We also hope to begin a dialogue with the George Eastman Museum to see how we might use their newly acquired collection of contemporary Indian cinema--the largest such collection in the world--for pedagogical and research purposes. Our intention is to lay the groundwork for a longer-term working group that can plan more substantial events around Indian film, music, and media.
