LLC44: Andean-Amazonian Reading Group

About

Our main goal is to create a learning community passionate about Latin America and explore it beyond geopolitical boundaries. Our collective gravitates around the cultures, histories, and environments of the Andes and the Amazon.

Collaborative Goals

  • To contribute to a more plural understanding of Latin America as a whole, where historically marginalized voices have been the object of study instead of a producer of knowledge on equal footing with Western scholarship.
  • To create a space for a learning community, one that reaches scholars but also goes beyond the academic ecosystem across borders and disciplines, exchanges ideas and insights, shares research findings, cultural productions, and social initiatives.
  • To promote an active dialogue between US based scholars and artistic, intellectual and pedagogical community-based initiatives in the Andes and the Amazon.
  • To engage in meaningful non-hierarchical discussions that bridge the gap between disciplines, languages, and cultures.
  • To foster a deeper understanding of the social, gender, cultural, political, historical, and ecological dynamics that shape the Andean-Amazonian region.
  • To nurture a space to approach Latin American studies from a less Eurocentric and Western perspective.
