Collaborative Goals
This group aims to promote cross-campus collaboration on the study of race and space in the borderlands through discussion workshops with members of the working group as well as a roundtable discussion that includes members of the broader CNY academic community.
Throughout the semester, our group will hold rotating workshop discussions in which participants present their work for feedback and questions. Each presenter will also propose a broad keyword, such as “migration,” “racial intermixture,” or “indigeneity,” related to their presentation for further group discussion and consideration.
These meetings will culminate in a roundtable held on Cornell University’s campus that will be open to faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates from campuses across the CNY Humanities Corridor. Group members will first introduce the concepts and understandings developed in discussion workshops before inviting a broader discussion with the audience. Humanities Corridor funding will be used for flyers, refreshments, and IT Support.
In short, our working group has three main goals:
- To host regular workshops bringing together scholars studying a variety of regions and time periods to share their work on race and space and receive constructive feedback.
- To develop a shared understanding of the relationships between such concepts as boundaries and borderlands, colonization, racial formation, and indigeneity.
- To provide an in-person roundtable discussion open to faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates to explore topics developed over the course of our collaborative workshops.
