Staging Shakespeare Masterclass with Catherine Weidner
About This Event
This investigative Practice-based-Research convergence will engage techniques from improvisation & Meisner to guide actor-generated staging of Shakespeare (rather than director-imposed “blocking”). Partner-responsiveness, dynamic movement, and rhetoric-as-action will be guided by guest expert Catherine Weidner. Through the lens of Shakespeare’s Richard the Third, collaborators will convene to share pedagogy & practice in guiding student scholar-actors/directors within Theo Black’s acting course & Shakespeare Troupe club. This layered several-days’ sharing is intended as a seed-sowing endeavor to bridge scholarly understandings of textual dramaturgy & script analysis into actor-centered interpretive artistry & student empowerment.
