Demanding Answers from History (2024) chronicles a landmark case in China’s #MeToo movement: Xianzi v. Zhu Jun, a dispute over liability for sexual harassment. Between 2020 and 2022, as this case underwent three court hearings, significant shifts occurred within Chinese society and the domestic #MeToo movement. During every hearing, supporters gathered outside the courthouse to stand in solidarity with Xianzi, sharing moments of laughter, tears, and political awakening. The film captures the frustrations and triumphs of this pivotal #MeToo case both inside and outside the courtroom.
