Eiko Otake - A Body in Places
About This Event
Guest presenter Eiko Otake will present a film screening with Zoomed-in discussion of her internationally known work. Movement-based interdisciplinary artist Eiko Otake responds to ecological crises in films such as A Body in Tokyo. Born and raised in Japan and a resident of New York since 1976, Eiko’s work in Eiko & Koma helped earn the duo a MacArthur Fellowship, a Guggenheim, the Samuel H. Scripps American Dance Festival and the Dance Magazine Awards. Eiko now performs as a soloist, directs her own projects, and creates films. This screening will share some of her recent, visually striking works. MP4 Corridor Member Missy Pfohl Smith, along with Visual and Cultural Studies PhD candidate Tristan Bass-Krueger, will facilitate discussion and Q & A. ASL interpretatio and closed captions will be provided.
